Can you tell me how much the Meta Quest 3 will cost? Is there going to be an increase in its price of it? Fortunately for us, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated in a previous statement that the Quest 3 will be priced in the $300, $400, or $500 range, so for now, we can remain optimistic that the upcoming virtual reality headset will not be much more expensive than its predecessor, if at all, since Zuckerberg himself said that it was planned for a price within that range.
As a point of reference, the Quest 2 starts at $399 for the base model with 128GB of storage and there is also a $499 version with 256GB of storage available. So we can reasonably expect the Quest 3 to start at around $400 as well.
Name of the third edition of Meta Quest
In spite of the fact that it’s almost a certainty that the successor to Quest 2 will be called Meta Quest 3, it’s equally important to note that the latter has made the news under multiple codenames as well.
As of this past week, it has come to light that the Meta team has codenamed its next headset, Codename Stinson, which will be released soon. The name of the headset could be derived from either the aircraft company or the character from How I Met Your Mother, but it is certainly an interesting name for a VR device. As well, Quest 3 has recently appeared in the Quest App under a different codename – Eureka – which is associated with its development.

A description of the design and cameras of Meta Quest 3 can be found here
As of now, very little official information about the Quest 3’s design has been released, but we can reasonably expect it to be similarly minimalist and clean in appearance to the Quest 2.
In spite of this, a YouTuber by the name of SadlyItsBradley has claimed that he possesses leaked CAD renders of the Meta Quest 3, which, if true, would provide us with all of the information we need.
Even if we assume that the CAD renders we are seeing here is really Quest 3 CAD renderings, we can see that while the headset does indeed remain minimalist, it appears to have undergone a lot of design changes from its predecessor.
Despite the fact that the soft head strap of the Quest 3 looks similar to that of the Quest 2, the headset’s USB port as well as the positioning of the camera have been revised.
Moreover, there are now 6 cameras, two on the sides of the headset, which are used for tracking, and four closer to the center, which are arranged into distinct rounded-corner camera islands. It is also worth mentioning that inside the center camera island is a depth sensor, which will prove to be very useful in the case of mixed reality features and speaking of the Quest 3 cameras, we can expect color passthrough, unlike the monochrome one we have on the Quest 2.
There have been several reports claiming that Zuckerberg himself has confirmed this, and this, along with the depth sensor you can see in the schematics above, suggests a stronger focus on mixed reality on the Quest 3, compared to its predecessor’s VR-centric design.

There was another interesting discovery about the Quest 3’s pins on its bottom side, which might hint at possible compatibility with the Quest Pro’s charging dock for speedier and easier charging of the device. The Quest 3 will either get its own dock for charging or it will get its own dock for charging.
Last and not least, we’ve heard rumors that the Quest 3 will be thinner than its predecessor, the Quest 2, and we are hopeful that it will be lighter than its predecessor, which would be great news for us. To give you an idea of how much the Quest 2 weighs, it weighs about 500 grams.
Display of Meta Quest 3 and IPD for the game
In spite of the fact that it is pretty evident that the Quest 3 will not have the eye-tracking feature of the Meta Quest Pro, we expect improvements to its IPD range and tuning in the near future.
It appears that the Quest 3 when compared to its predecessors, will have a more intricate method of finetuning one’s IPD (Inter-Pupillar Distance), which will be controlled by an IPD adjustment wheel located on the bottom left side of the device.
As a result, we are reasonably confident that the Quest 3 will support a higher IPD range than the Quest 2’s 58 – 68 mm, but further details have not yet been released or confirmed.

Memory and storage requirements for Meta Quest 3
It is anticipated that the Quest 3 will come with 12 GB of RAM, as well as up to 512 GB of non-expandable storage, which are both double the storage capacity of the Quest 2.
We can expect that the base model of the Quest 3 will come with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and we can expect that this will be the configuration that most users will choose.
Features and software of Meta Quest 3
While we haven’t seen any official information on what new features and software Meta is planning to incorporate with the Quest 3, we do know to expect a color passthrough, as well as a stronger focus on augmented reality (or mixed reality).
There is a good chance that the Quest 3 will be running on its fork of Android 11 or 12, but it will also feature an optional PC-tethered mode via AirLink in addition to its main mode, in which it can be used as a standalone VR headset.
The Quest 2 will offer though several features that you won’t find on the Quest 2, including a web browser, multiwindow multitasking, likely improved hand tracking, and all-in-color pass-through, which is augmented reality! It’s exciting! We will keep you updated as soon as official features are announced, so stay tuned.
