It was an entertaining and cute first episode of Buddy Daddies, giving viewers a lot to look forward to this season. Two assassin roommates and their newly adopted Miri (voiced by Hina Kino) form a makeshift family, which promises some quality antics. Even though it’s too early to call it the best show of Winter 2023, this anime is one viewers should check out.
A shady jewelry deal opens the episode. Kazuki and Rei are two assassins for hire. They apprehend the man responsible for smuggling the jewelry after a wild car chase. Using his cell phone, he says he got his orders there.
Kazuki gets a call saying Miri is sick and needs to be picked up from school while he is interrogating the jewelry smuggler. After shooting the jewelry smuggler, he leaves to pick her up from school sick.
A few months earlier, Kazuki and Rei met Miri for the first time. Kazuki had just returned home to discover his roommate, Rei, had adopted a cat. Rei is scolded for taking in a pet. Kazuki leaves with the cat after they argue.
Kazuki reminds Rei that they are in a dangerous line of work and that they could die at any moment. It’s even worse if they hurt someone they care about. Then we see a flashback to Kazuki and a pregnant woman.At Kazuki’s Christmas Party, they will be going after the head of a human trafficking ring. Kazuki bans Rei from bringing home any more pets.
At the cafe where he works, Kazuki meets Kyutaro. Payment for the job is received and an ID is requested. He asks Kyutaro to send half of his money. Kyutaro says he will try, but she’s never in the mood.
In search of her father, a young girl rides the train alone. Miri is our first meeting.
By pretending to deliver a cake, Rei and Kazuki get into the Christmas party. As the elevator doors close, Miri runs in after Kazuki and the cake after he tricks the guard. Miri asks Kazuki to help her find her dad, thinking he’s Santa. When the doors open, she runs out of the elevator, alerting them to the security upstairs. Under the cake trolley, Rei shoots them both.
Guests flee as Rei heads straight for the target after shooting their way inside. In the rush, Kazuki loses Miri, only to find the target is holding her hostage. As Rei manages to shoot the target and his guards, Kazuki runs up to save her, declaring he is Miri’s father. Rei chastises Kazuki for bringing home a daughter when he wasn’t allowed to have a cat while Miri sleeps on the couch.
